When to choose coaching
Coaching conversations are helpful in addressing work-related and business situations. Coaching is a collaborative process which will enable you to explore and understand yourself, your situation, and to problem-solve. It is solution-focused, centering on outcomes and how to move in a direction you choose, in any area of your life.
Coaching is mainly about asking the right questions in a collaborative and trusting environment. As with Single Session Therapy, many of my coaching clients say that a single session is sufficient for them to handle things more productively. I do not limit coaching to a single session, of course, some clients prefer regular sessions. The key is that we make each session count, and many people say that it gives them a greater sense of control to be able to book individual sessions as and when they want to.
I use a combination of techniques including observation, active listening, exploratory questioning and enquiry. Some of the topics people consult me for coaching on are:
Goals and aspirations
In the hurly-burly of daily life it is easy to let our own agenda slip. Some people say they don’t have time to think about themselves, others believe that their dreams are impossible or that they are incapable of reaching them.
Resilience is a capacity that helps people and respond well to challenge, setback and even crisis. It is the ability to ‘bounce back’, to recover and respond with commitment and optimism. It is a major factor in coping with stress, and the good news is that it is built on learnable skills.
It is increasingly difficult meeting all the demands we face. Often, our own needs are last on a to-do list. Take a little time out to get your agenda sorted. Living in a more satisfying and balanced way need not mean saying ‘no’ all the time or letting people down.
