My approach

My approach is Solution Focused in that, when people have something they want to change in their lives it is useful to work towards solutions, rather than to just focus problems and speculate on their causes.

Being Solution Focused means that I work in collaboration with my client to establish their strengths and skills, to understand their aspirations and ambitions, and to help them establish their goals in our work together.

Results are achieved quickly – typically in one to five sessions – which in the fast-paced lives we lead these days suits many people.

Solution Focused (SF) practice has its roots in the therapeutic approach devised by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg and others, at the Brief Family Therapy Centre Milwaukee. The approach values simplicity in philosophy and language and aims to discover “what works” in a given situation, simply and practically. For 30 years Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) has been developed as a positive and pragmatic way to work with individuals and organisations.
