Both are useful, one is discovering its purpose but maybe never really finds it, the other has a clearly defined purpose, although this doesn’t limit its uses.

Every culture in the world knows what trees are and all make use of them in some form. Chairs, on the other hand, are only used by some cultures. Others don’t see them as at all necessary.

Trees are deeply symbolic, and chairs get used as symbols.

Some cultures worship trees and, whether it is discussed or not, humans have a spiritual connection with trees.

A collection of trees is called  a forest or woodland, a collection of chairs might be called a waiting room, church, classroom or, if you are lucky, a restaurant.

Trees generate, chairs consume (you have to cut up a tress to make a wooden chair). You can’t reverse-engineer a chair to make a tree. Does this mean that there’s no going back for a chair?

Some daft thoughts prompted by worry about the condition of a chair that has been in my family for several generations.
