It may be annoying, but people like to make their own decisions. It’s not only annoying though, it can be destructive too. Many family and relationship tensions are caused and maintained because one person thinks that they must make decisions for another person.

The result is that you get two unhappy people; it can be frustrating when somebody doesn’t take your ‘advice’, and it can be demeaning and frustrating when someone tries to get you to do what they want, rather than standing back and letting you do what you want.

The tragic outcome of this sort of scenario is that the relationship acts as a brake on the aspirations and development of two people. In a worst-case scenario, it will ravage two lives by shaping the characters of them both.

I’m a psychologist, coach, and therapist. All my work is aimed at enabling people to improve personal aspects of their lives and work.
