We are all exhorted to strive for excellence these days, but as you’ve probably noticed, not a lot of people are getting there.

The problem with the inspirational guru-speak and universal calls to action with which we are bombarded each day is that, though some might be given a nudge towards excellence (whatever that is), most of us are stuck with who we are.

Who we are is average, that’s a statistical probability.

However we like to think of ourselves, the reality is probably that we are less excellent than we aspire to be, and many of us are mediocre (I myself excel at mediocrity in many areas of my life, though in some I can’t even reach that standard).

The message is, embrace your mediocrity. Revel in the fact that if you are average, you belong.

I’m a psychologist, coach, and therapist. All my work is aimed at enabling people to improve personal aspects of their lives and work.
