Sometimes a stranger comes to the village and tells the village a story, and the people of the village rediscover something.

Familiarity can make us careless in our assessment of things. When we see someone or something regularly there is a risk that we don’t really ‘see’ it or them at all.

We get set our ways, but occasionally something happens to shake us out of our comfortable apathy. It may be that we are given the opportunity to see things through a stranger’s eyes, or that a crisis forces a change.

This isn’t always welcome of course, but it’s necessary for any group or individual to grow and flourish. We don’t always want to take a new perspective or hear another’s point of view, and to do so requires openness and a spirit of enquiry. First and foremost though it requires willingness, and that’s a personal choice.
