Some things that we do almost by habit are pretty redundant. Misplaced guilt is one of them, and so is blame.

What is the purpose of blame anyway? If somebody has done wrong and they need to be identified and corrected or punished (and there’s a whole other story there!), then that’s what needs doing and blaming doesn’t add anything useful.

Understanding where responsibility rests, and asking those who are accountable to respond appropriately is one exercise, blaming is a different one. It is a pernicious habit of projecting responsibility on others, which says more about the blamer than it does about the one who is purportedly guilty.
