Reach your goals

As someone once said, “If you don’t know where you are going, that’s probably where you’ll wind up”. If you are hoping to change something about yourself or your life, do you know exactly how you want things to be when the change has happened? The clearer the image you have the more likely it is that you’ll wind up in the right place, or at least, near it. This exercise should start you on the right road. Take the time as you need to complete it.

What to do?

1. Between now and next week, make a list of the things you would like to be different in relation to the change you want to make. What exactly would you like to change (don’t worry about HOW, that comes later)?
Be specific. List events or situations. Focus on your experience in each situation, (your thoughts feelings and behaviour) that you’d like to see change, rather than how you’d like others to change.

2. What will be different when you have reached your goal? What will enable you to say “Yay! I’ve done it”?

3. What will be (or has been) the first and smallest sign that change is starting to happen?

4 When you notice the first small signs of change what do you expect you might do to keep the ball rolling?

Thanks for this Barry. I have printed it out and will have a think about the questions over the next week and make my list. This has come at a very good time for me. It’s my birthday on monday which is always a time I reflect on what I have done/changed etc etc in the last year. Also my Dad died 10 years ago next month and I had promised myself then I would make the changes needed in order to be happier and more fulfilled. I have made some changes which have resulted in me being more contented over the years. Your timely but challenging/ difficult to answer questions in this blog will be a great motivator for me to think about where exactly I want to be in the future…So thanks again.
