We spend more time caring for our teeth, than we do caring for our minds, In this highly engaging TED talk, Guy Winch explains why it’s time we closed the gap between our physical and our psychological health, by practicing emotional hygiene.
If you want to solve a problem you don't have to come up with a solution before you begin. It's usually enough to start the process so the solution can emerge. Take it one step at a time.
Is your history also your future? Or do you allow yourself to consider other possibilities? It seems to be a natural habit to believe that we'll always be what we always were. It leads us to judge ourselves and others, and that limits our possibilities.
This is nothing to do with computers, money, or change of service details. Remember that I posted Time for a Personal Upgrade back in December? I said then that I'd send a reminder, so here is it. The suggestions I made were: Repair a damaged relationship Change an out-of-date habit Replace a routine that no longer works Refurbish your image Renovate a personal regime Inspect your values for cracks Upgrade your thinking habits Remove clutter (physically and metaphorically) Carry out a regular ‘survey of self’. Best wishes for 2015.
I realise that when someone says “I have no choice”, this is just an expression to get them through a tricky situation; they know that there are other options, but they're not prepared to take them at that moment. It's just a turn of phrase, an expression, I know, but it just make things seem worse. Try this.
I have seen dozens of books on parenting (I used to review them), some good, some less so. As far as I can remember, they were all about active process; doing things for, with or to children. I cannot remember one that touched what parenting is really about. Most of us want our children to grow into independent, free-thinking, fair and honest adults. Just like we are. Here are some thoughts, gleaned from experience (135 child-years of it!).
Here's the reminder I promised when I posted Time for a Personal Upgrade. Remember, you don't actually have to do anything to make change happen. It's going on all the time, so just hitch a ride. YEEHA!
"If at first you don't succeed..." the saying goes. An admirable sentiment, maybe, but lousy advice if it's never going to work. Here's another approach.
