
In a previous post, I wrote about internal vs external motivation, and I floated the idea that internal motivation is akin to ‘inspiration’.
If this is the case, then inspiration is the carrot, whereas motivation is the stick. It helps to know which works best for you.
At this time of year, there is a natural momentum which favours personal change. Some people frame this as ‘resolutions’, others simply plan to do something new, different, or differently. Either way, you will give yourself a head-start by understanding which works best for you, carrot or stick.
