Is “Perfect” the New Buzzword?

Language changes and the way in which it is used and evolves. I understand this and I'm interested to notice the changes. I'm saying that to show that I'm open and accepting and I'm not someone who resists change. I understand and like the fact that linguistic drift is constant, and it happens in all sorts of ways. My worry is that when something becomes a buzzword, it begins to be devalued. When everything is perfect, will we stop trying?

Emotional Couch Potatoes

The couch (as in analyst's couch), has a long association with thoughts and feelings, but too long on the couch can make us sluggish and lethargic. The way out of this is to take some exercise. Mental exercise has many parallels with its physical counterpart. For example; we improve with practice, and most of us don't do enough of it.

No Goats Yet, But Soon

It's all been getting a bit serious lately. Looking back over my recent posts I'm chagrined to find that the blog could give the impression that I think solemnity and thoughtful preoccupation is what life is all about. I don't think that and I get a slight feeling of shame when I realise that I might have given that impression. The art of using questions is a skill that must be developed, and because we are only rarely taught to use them skilfully we mostly muddle along with poor quality questions. Not only do these fail to generate useful responses, they can do the opposite of what is intended by tying us up in knots to sending us round in ...

The Mother of the Senses

The skin is the bodies largest organ and touch is as vital to us as oxygen and food. Touch nourishes us in a unique and far-reaching way. We cannot force physical contact on others, and tragically some people even say that they don't like to be touched. We can think about our own needs, and recognise the central importance of touch for wellbeing.

Being Happy and Meaning It

The happiness industry is always producing new products and advice. A lot of the ideas and suggestions work, which is good. But there may be a simpler way.

Your Right to Good Health

Good health and wellbeing are things to strive for. In the future, personal and initiative will become increasingly important if we want to stay in good health. However good the services and resources that are available to us, we also have to do our bit to promote our own wellbeing. Nobody else can do it for us.
