If you only have a single story about yourself, an event, or anything else, that story is manipulating you. You might say that a single story leads to psychological impoverishment.
Do you see difference, or do you see similarity? They are different, but also the same. It just depends which aspect you choose to focus on. There's a kind of fuzzy logic to it.
Have you ever wondered why so many instructions fail? It's often because they are not instructions at all, but an expression of the speakers own apprehensions. Without knowing it, when you start the sentence with "Don't..." you are inviting the receiver to do what follows.

There's an excuse we have all used (well, I certainly have), that's a standard 'get out' for failed communications. It's best illustrated by a story. I've told it many times, but that's how it is with a good story, it gets re-told until it is no longer needed.

Remembering and honouring the past is a personal and private commitment to that which we have lost. It's a kind of contract. Memories fade with time, they are meant to. But that doesn't mean we have to forget, it simply means the relationship is changing. With luck, it'll enter an even richer phase.
I wrote about depression and a friend made an relevant comment which got me thinking. This raised an interesting concept (I thought) and, though it might appear to be brash self-promotion, it is also a sincere offer of help. If you are depressed, there is not need for the suffering to continue, as long as you find the right guide.
When someone survives something it is generally an important phase in their growth and development. Having 'survived', what next? The natural order of things suggests getting on with life, moving on, and thriving even.
